Hawzah News Agency – This year’s theme for International Women’s Day, #BreakTheBias, reflects the challenges women globally are still facing with gender-based discrimination, prejudice and inequality.

Zara Mohammed, Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain said:

“International Women’s Day is a celebration of global women and girls, our achievement and successes, as well as a reflection of our potential. It’s a reminder that every girl should be confident about who she is and her ability to make a real change.

Muslim Women in particular, still face barriers and challenges, which is why the MCB is committing to help empower, upskill and celebrate the achievements of women and girls not just on one day, but all year round. International Women’s Day is a call to action for us all to break that bias, to shatter those barriers and reaffirm our commitment to build thriving and a more equitable society.”

The MCB will be hosting an ‘Inspiring Young Girls’ online event on the 8th March with Secretary General, Zara Mohammed, which launches the ‘MCB: Inspiring Young Leaders Series’. This will be followed by a ‘Muslim Women in the Media’ training session hosted by the Centre for Media Monitoring, to help Muslim Women with practical advice and tools to navigate the media environment.

The MCB is also delighted to announce the launch the ‘Muslim Leaders Dinner for Women’ this year, to celebrate the work and achievements of Muslim Women from across society, which often goes unnoticed.
